From the 1st of July to 31 of August annual international Summer School on Nanotechnology took place in Munich (Germany). Nine students from around the world including Spain, Poland, New Zealand, Armenia, Egypt and Iran were selected to participate in the two-month program. Among them there was an employee of our Center - Alexey Seleznev. He was an intern in the group of Professor E. Wagner, in the Department of Pharmacy of Ludwig Maximilians University Munich. The participants were chosen on a competitive basis by which the NIM award covering payment of flights, accommodation, payment of public transport, as well as excursions and cultural activities was given. Each student was then associated with research mentor to work on the project. Within two months students were expected to learn new techniques and methods, perform lab work and conduct experiments. Finally the findings were expected to be shown in a brief 10 minutes presentation at the closing session.

During the weekends, students were able to visit the Deutsches Museum, the largest science and technology exhibition in the world. It's divided into zones dedicated to specific areas of knowledge or science, such as physics, chemistry, engineering, aviation, pharmaceuticals, etc., and the total exhibition occupies 6 floors, there is also a large space dedicated to nanotechnology. The other option was to visit the BMW World or BMW Museum. And of course a lot of time was spent with new friends over a glass of Bavarian beer in numerous "beer gardens." In addition the program offered guided tours to the Neuschwanstein castle, Salzburg and Berlin, where students could enjoy the beauty of the Austrian scenery, visit the home of Bavarian kings, and learn some new facts about the history of the Second World War, as well as to see the preserved part of the famous Berlin Wall. Next summer school will be held in in 2013, the selection of applications will take place this winter. To participate follow the news on the NIM programs website.
